Small World Project is extremely excited to be working on a new musical score for the classic animated film, ‘The Adventures of Prince Achmed’ (1926). on June 8th, we’ll perform a live version of the score to accompany a projection of this important historical film at the Salle Claude Jutra, Cinémathèque Québécoise. A co-presentation by StéréoKULTUR.

Premiered in 2010, the music and dance project ‘Notes de chevet’ will be presented again in Montréal for by the CAM en tournée. The production is based on the renowned Japanese literary work ‘The Pillow Book’, written over a thousand years ago by Sei Shōnagon. This version of ‘Notes de chevet’ features musicians Claire Gignac, Patrick Graham, Jean René, and sound-designer Frédéric Auger.

Eastern Taiko Conference 2012

I am very excited to be participating in the 2012 Eastern Taiko Conference. I will be teaching two workshops, on the topics of chappa playing and lateral drumming/ katsugi-daiko, as well as performing in concert at the conference with good friends On Ensemble and Kaoru Watanabe.

March Taiko Travels

I am looking forward to traveling to the US in March for two events. I will be instructing a combined chappa and katsugi-daiko workshop at my good friend Kaoru Watanabe‘s taiko centre in Brooklyn (NY) on March 28th. The workshop will introduce participants to the basics of both chappa and katsugi-daiko playing, as well as some more advanced techniques and rhythms. I am also excited to attend the upcoming Eastern Taiko Conference 2012, which is being held at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, March 30th to April 1st. My friends from Los Angeles-based On Ensemble will be there, as well as Kaoru’s group, and also, all the way from Hawaii, Kenny Endo.
