Event Horizon : New Music for Hideo Arai

Today, December 5th, is Bandcamp Friday, and I'm excited to finally be releasing Event Horizon, the first track from my upcoming solo album, Celeste.

Over the course of the next several months, I’ll be releasing one new track every month, available exclusively on Bandcamp.
>>The full album will be available on June 5 2026.<<

Celeste is a recording project that began 4 years ago, part of my ongoing search for new sounds, a further intertwining of acoustic and electronic sources. All of the pieces on the album are the result of experimentation, fashioned from sketches, accidents and improvisations, re-visited many times over. They are points along a path, looking upward.

In the first track, Event Horizon, three sets of suspended bell motifs unfold inexorably against a thickening backdrop of darkness.

This music is dedicated to my friend, Hideo Arai. A multi-talented dance-artist, Hideo is one of the most creative people I’ve had the good fortune to count as a friend and collaborator. Three years ago he was diagnosed with ALS, a crippling motor neuron disease. While his life has since become increasingly fragile, he continues to teach and to remain as active as possible, including even writing a book about his work as an artist and teacher. His courage in the face of this devastating disease has been an inspiration to me and everyone around him.

I am donating all of the proceeds from sales of this track and the upcoming album to Hideo to help pay for the rising costs of his care.

Learn more about the disease and donate to your local ALS society, such as https://als.ca in Canada.

Thanks for your support.
