(August 12) I’m currently in the small village of Houdetsi in Crete following workshops with the fabulous percussionist Zohar Fresco. The Labyrinth centre here organizes multiple Mediterranean music workshops throughout the year as well as presenting a wonderful music festival in the month of August. We’re working intensively on riqq, upright and lap-style frame drums, learning Zohar’s unique style and rhythmic approach.
Update: Success! We survived and it was amazing. What a great group of people. My heartfelt thanks to Zohar for sharing so openly his passion and deep musical wisdom.
This project was funded by the Canada Council for the Arts.
